Increasing awareness and understanding about cancer

What we do

We help reduce the impact of cancer in the community.

At National Cancer Foundation (NCF) we work to combat cancer in the community. We do this by providing information about awareness and prevention, and by helping people already affected by cancer.

And the biggest way we help them?

Through our amazing Patient Accommodation Program.

We’re a charitable organisation, and thanks to endless fundraising and generous donations, gifts and bequests, we’ve managed to buy or rent a number of houses in many of Australia’s capital cities (and we’re not done yet!).

These homes serve a very special purpose: to accommodate people from rural and regional Australia who need to travel far from home in order to receive specialist cancer treatment.

The NCF Patient Accommodation Program helps keep families together in safe, comfortable and family-friendly housing near treatment hospitals... and at no cost to the family. With short-term rental properties costing anywhere between $1,000 and $4,000 per week for a family of four, it’s a weight off your shoulders at a time you just need to be concentrating on getting better, surrounded by your loved ones.

What else we do

Since 2014, our mission at NCF has been to help reduce the impact of cancer in the community by providing the following:

  • Accommodation for cancer patients and their families during treatment
  • Financial assistance for things that could benefit a person’s treatment or recovery
  • Education and awareness to improve cancer prevention
  • Funding for cancer-related research and equipment
  • Meaningful, paid work opportunities for disadvantaged persons and people across the entire disability spectrum

To do all of this, we have teams of advocates in Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane who conduct awareness, prevention and fundraising campaigns in shopping centres. People can also choose to give donations when our advocates go door to door. We also have a telemarketing program, which allows us to contact people outside these cities.

In a world where there are so many causes asking for your help, we can’t thank you enough for your support. The love that you are showing to Australian families at the toughest times of their lives is truly appreciated.
